280+ Stations in Over 100 Markets Set to Begin HD Radio™ Broadcasting

PHILADELPHIA, PA - National Association of Broadcasters Radio Show - October 1, 2003 - Nationwide Adoption Representing Nearly Two-Thirds of Listeners Clears Way for Widespread Consumer Introduction of HD Radio at CES2004

iBiquity Digital Corporation, the sole developer of HD Radio™ technology, announced today that over 280 radio stations encompassing more than 100 markets have licensed the company's technology and have begun HD Radio broadcasting or are in the process of converting. Cumulatively, these markets represent over 145M listeners or nearly two-thirds of the Arbitron-ranked, listening public. As a result, the company now believes that it will easily exceed its initial goal for the year of licensing 300 stations, which will help to create significant awareness and initial demand for the widespread consumer introduction of HD Radio, which is slated to commence at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January.

"It is a phenomenal achievement to have reached this level of nationwide penetration prior to receivers even reaching consumers," said Robert Struble, chairman and CEO, iBiquity Digital. "Based on the size of the audience that we'll be able to reach as well as the wide variety of formats represented, we're extremely confidant that the introduction of HD Radio receivers will be enthusiastically received by consumers."

Among the key metrics achieved to date by stations licensing HD Radio technology are:

  • Within each of the six cities: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami and Seattle - previously identified by iBiquity as launch markets for HD Radio's consumer rollout, a minimum of ten stations and up to 18 stations have already licensed the technology.
  • Ten of the top ten, seventeen of the top twenty, and thirty-four of the top fifty markets feature stations that have currently licensed the technology.
  • Stations in 35 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico have demonstrated their commitment to HD Radio as well.

iBiquity Digital's HD Radio technology transforms today's radio experience by allowing AM/FM broadcasters to seamlessly transmit digital signals with superior audio and new data services alongside today's analog-based broadcasts. HD Radio technology will also allow for the development of additional on-demand interactive audio and wireless data services.
