iBiquity Releases Reference Designs for Digital HD Radio Receivers

Hong Kong – HK Electronics Fair – October 12, 2005 - iBiquity Digital Corporation, the sole developer of digital HD Radio technology, announced today that it has released new reference designs for tabletop and home HD Radio receivers.  These designs will serve as the technical foundation for entry-level consumer HD Radio products and are now available to all HD Radio licensees.  The reference designs provide a fast-track solution for OEM Consumer Electronics manufacturers looking to integrate HD Radio technology into current and future AM and FM radio product lines.

"With much of the upfront design work completed, these HD Radio reference designs will play an important role in lowering overall engineering expenses for consumer audio manufacturers and speeding time-to-market for new HD Radio receivers.  These designs are also flexible enough to adapt to a wide range of audio products, including platforms supporting other digital radio products," said Jeffery Jury, chief operating officer, iBiquity Digital Corporation. "We expect to see HD Radio receivers using these reference designs to be introduced by manufacturers in time for the upcoming International Consumer Electronics Show in January 2006."

iBiquity’s HD radio reference designs utilize existing HD Radio chipsets in a flexible, cost-optimized hardware design that is supported by standardized software drivers and simplified production testing equipment.  These initial designs will be followed by a planned series of HD Radio reference designs intended to simplify the task of adding basic HD Radio capabilities and new HD Radio data features to new and existing designs.

About HD Radio™

Over 2,800 radio stations in the U.S. are in the process of converting to the HD Radio system with more than 500 HD Radio broadcasters currently on the air. HD Radio technology transmits digital audio and data alongside existing AM and FM analog signals, allowing listeners with HD Radio-compatible receivers to enjoy CD-quality sound, while virtually eliminating the static and hiss typically associated with analog radio.  Beyond delivering superior sound, the technology provides a platform for advanced new services, including scrolling text on receiver display screens (e.g., artist names & song titles, weather forecasts, school closings); delivery of real-time traffic updates to vehicles; and multicasting -- a feature that allows FM stations to broadcast up to eight digital streams of programming over a single frequency and in addition to existing analog signals.  HD Radio receivers are now available or will be in soon from: ADA, Alpine, Boston Acoustics, DaySequerra, JVC, Kenwood, Panasonic, Radiosophy, Rotel, Sanyo, and Yamaha, with many more under development.
