RIFF2 Celebrates Great Detroit Rock With An "All White Stripes Weekend"
Detroit – Sept 28, 2005 – Detroit rockers The White Stripes will return for a trio of shows at the Masonic Temple this Friday (9/30), Saturday (10/1) and Sunday (10/2). To salute WRIF’s high definition side channel RIFF2 welcomes The White Stripes back to the Motor City by playing all White Stripes All weekend long!
"The White Stripes rock-a-thon will begin this Friday at 8:00 a.m. and continue all weekend long. RIFF2 will dig deep into duo’s music library to bring you an entire weekend of live tracks, bootlegs and rare deep tracks from Detroit’s garage rock heroes. Each night at 10PM RIFF2 will also roll out a different previously unreleased White Stripes live concert."
“With 3 nearly sold out shows in the heart of Detroit this weekend, we figured it was a great time to honor one of Detroit’s own” said RIFF2’s Mark Pennington. “The RIFF2 staff is working overtime digging up some rare stuff that you normally wouldn’t hear on the radio and dish it up in a real Detroit salute.”
101 WRIF debuted RIFF2, a special HD Radio side channel, at the end of July this year with the unveiling of the HD radio broadcast. Both stations transmit a digital signal that provides CD quality sound and has the ability to display more text information than a traditional radio. Fans can listen to RIFF2 through special HD radio receivers available in tabletop and auto receiver models now or by simply logging on to www.riff2.com.
RIFF 2 is already making it’s mark with a special ”made in Detroit" mix of alternative and indie rock, hip hop, punk and the best from today’s Detroit music scene. By embracing local and unsigned bands RIFF2 breaks the rules of traditional radio and offers a true alternative music choice. WRIF2 is a new execution of the WRIF tradition that the next generation of Detroit music lovers can grow up with and will look to for “their” music.
101 WRIF FM and Riff2 are owned and operated by Greater Media, Inc., the parent company of 19 AM and FM radio stations in the Boston, Detroit, New Jersey and Philadelphia markets. It also owns a modern printing plant and a group of weekly newspapers in central New Jersey as well as several telecommunications towers located throughout the United States.
