Broadcast Electronics Gears Up For NAB Radio Show

Quincy, IL, USA - Broadcast Electronics (BE), the country’s largest radio-only manufacturer, will build on its Total Radio approach to station operation at the upcoming 2005 NAB Radio Show.

BE booth number 319 will demonstrate the industry’s first end-to-end studio system integrating on-air audio with over-the-Internet, HD Radio™ and RDS data activities. The solution builds on the company’s advances in content delivery by integrating BE’s AudioVAULT® Version 9.0 digital audio system with its SoniXtream streaming media management software and Now Playing software capable of generating song title, artist, and other text for display on FM RDS and HD Radio tuners.

In addition to its studio products, the company will showcase its award-winning 4M AM technology, a breakthrough modulation method that exceeds the standards in AM transmitter efficiency, size and power-performance to meet today’s HD Radio requirements. On display will be its 4MX 50kW transmitter, the first in a new series of AM transmitters based on the modulation method.

BE’s FXi digital FM exciter, XPi 10 Data Exporter, IDi 10/20 Data Importer and other transmission products will represent the company’s advanced HD Radio technology demonstrating second-generation multicasting and data services.

Broadcast Electronics has been on the forefront of HD Radio second-generation deployment as the first, and currently only, manufacturer to offer a complete line of data products and an HD Radio Data Importer with multicast-channel bandwidth provisioning. BE HD Radio systems were used for the HD Radio booster test successfully performed by KCSN(FM) and the first on-air multicast of two supplemental channels and a main channel by WFAE(FM).

Also at the booth: BE’s Big Pipe broadband T1/wireless inter-facility transport unit capable of carrying the high-bandwidth services of today’s radio and BE’s RDi Dynamic RDS Generators. New tools for RDS multiplexing, monitoring and logging also will be on display at the booth as will the company’s MARTI line of robust RPU and STL systems for any remote location.

BE’s Total Radio approach to station operation extends from the studio to the transmitter for unsurpassed reliability and future-proof flexibility.
