Major Retailers Reveal Aggressive HD Digital Radio Campaigns

ORLANDO, April 10, 2006 - In response to a surge in consumer demand for HD Digital Radio™ receivers, three major retailers now plan to offer HD Digital Radios in their stores nationwide beginning this month and have announced sweeping marketing and education campaigns to support new customers. Tweeter, Crutchfield and ABC Warehouse/Detroit are leading the way in serving what promises to be the biggest trend in consumer entertainment since the advent of FM radio.

Specifically, the companies are rolling out in-store and online education to assist customers, comprehensive staff training, in-store and point-of-purchase marketing, Spanish-language versions of marketing and advertising, and customized commercials running on some 260+ Alliance member radio stations. The commercials started today and can also be heard online at http://www.hdradio.com/press_room.php.

The moves coincide with the second wave of the HD Digital Radio Alliance's $200 million, on-air advertising campaign. This second wave of commercials will prominently feature ABC Warehouse, Tweeter and Crutchfield.com; each of these retailers is running HD Digital Radio commercials.

"Consumer demand for HD Digital Radio receivers has increased significantly over the past few months as consumers see the incredible value HD Radio offers," said Peter Ferrara, president and C.E.O. of the HD Digital Radio Alliance. "We expect these developments to end the lengthy waiting lists for receivers that consumers are currently experiencing. Clearly, these retailers have seen what we've seen: Consumers want HD Digital Radio programming, and smart retailers want to get ahead of the curve in providing it."

The moves also capitalize on strong momentum for the emerging technology in recent months. More than 700 radio stations are currently broadcasting primary signals in HD Digital Radio, and hundreds have introduced HD2 multicast channels with more than 250 entirely new music formats. The additions dramatically increase sound quality and freedom of choice for radio listeners, and the response has been a wave of consumer demand for units. Consumers' main options have been to either buy online or wait in line - until today.

An Unprecedented Commitment

Beginning today, Tweeter will be carrying HD Digital Radios in all of its markets, supported by online information for consumers, in-store signage and point-of-purchase displays and special training for salespeople. The retailer will also launch an advertising campaign featuring a Tweeter spokesperson to raise awareness among consumers.

"We're continuing our tradition of providing the best new entertainment options for our customers by offering the latest technologies with HD Radio," said Jonathan Magasanik, vice president and general merchandising manager at Tweeter. "We've seen an increase in consumer interest and awareness for these products over the past 30 days, and we expect it to continue in the foreseeable future."

An early champion of HD Digital Radio, Crutchfield will be expanding its commitment with a wide variety of models, as well as online consumer information, dedicated assistance for Spanish- language customers and extensive salesperson training. A flight of ads is already running with new spots to start April 10.

"Our popular catalog and award-winning Crutchfield.com website make HD Radio available to consumers who prefer the convenience of home delivery," said John Haydock, senior vice president of marketing and creative for Crutchfield. "Our customers expect us to be ahead of the latest trends in entertainment products, and our skilled advisors and online resources make an HD Radio purchase no exception."

ABC Warehouse Detroit will be leading the HD Digital Radio revolution in the Midwest, with HD radio products in multiple markets, on-line information, store listening stations and customized ads running in the Detroit market.

"Motown is a music town with a historic reputation for great radio," said Bob Fraser, buyer/merchandiser of ABC Warehouse. "For the most exciting development in recent radio history, ABC Warehouse is proud to be on the leading edge. We know consumers in this area have been asking for these products, and we're going to be the HD Digital Radio Central retailer."

"The HD Digital Radio Alliance was formed to accelerate the roll-out of HD Digital Radio in the consumer marketplace, a process that happens by forging strong partnerships with retailers, manufacturers and automakers. The commitment of these retailers is a major stride forward in fulfilling our mission ahead of schedule," said Ferrara. "We'd like to thank all of our partners for sharing our vision and we anticipate more partners coming on board in the future to enable even more consumers to enjoy the HD Digital Radio revolution."
