HD Digital Radio Alliance Endorses Beasley Broadcast Group's HD2 SW Florida Programming
FORT MYERS and NAPLES, Florida, August 23, 2006 – Beasley Broadcast Group, Inc. announced today that the HD Digital Radio Alliance, a joint initiative of leading radio broadcasters that is accelerating the rollout of HD digital radio, endorsed Beasley’s planned HD2 programming in Southwest Florida. Beasley will begin airing new, unique programming at “96.1 K-Rock WRXK-FM” sister rock music station, K-Rock Legends 96.1 HD2 and reggae hits at “Southwest Florida’s B103.9 WXKB-FM” sister station, Beach 103.9 HD2 in the fall. Both of the HD2 broadcasts will be available for free in crystal clear, CD-quality sound for those who own an HD Radio™ receiver.
HD Radio enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast their programs digitally, providing listeners with radically improved audio quality, better signal reception, song and artist information, as well as the ability to choose between multiple programming options on the same FM frequency. In addition to the new programming to be launched on the HD2 stations, the regular programming on “96-1 K-Rock WRXK-FM” and “Southwest Florida’s B103.9 WXKB-FM” is also being broadcast with HD Radio technology.
Beasley’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Bruce Beasley, stated, “Listeners are responding well to the five Beasley Broadcast Group stations that are already multicasting ‘side channels’ in our Philadelphia, Miami and Las Vegas markets. We are happy to bring Southwest Florida deeper into the rock listening library at K-Rock’s Legends 96.1 HD2 and some of the best beach listening reggae hits on Beach 103.9 HD2.
“We are delighted to be offering Southwest Florida listeners more subscription-free listening choices with incredible digital audio. In addition, as an industry leader in the rollout of HD radio, we are also pleased to announce that the HD Digital Alliance has endorsed HD programming for our other Southwest Florida stations, 106.3 Southwest Florida’s GREAT Music Station WJPT-FM and New Rock 99X WJBX-FM.”
Legends will feature the best variety of deeper classic rock songs listeners don’t usually hear on the radio. It is a great mix of music for the pure classic rock fan showcasing artists such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and The Police. It will provide a great complement to the mass appeal classic rock already featured on 96-1 K-Rock. Beach 103.9 HD2 will also showcase new and classic reggae music, including Bob Marley and the Wailers and Sean Paul. Both new stations, which require no subscription fees, will offer non-stop music in pristine, crystal clear sound 24 hours per day, and can be accessed with any HD Radio receiver by setting the tuner to “96.1 HD2” or “103.9 HD2”.
