HD Radioâ„¢ Takes Center Stage at NAB Radio Show

Columbia, MD – September 19, 2006 – The rollout of digital HD Radio™ technology continues to move forward with great momentum and nowhere will that be more evident than at this year’s National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Radio Show starting September 20 in Dallas.  HD Radio broadcasting is the featured topic in several sessions over the three day conference, highlighted by “HD Radio: State of the Union,” a discussion led by Peter Ferrara, President and CEO, HD Digital Radio Alliance, and Robert Struble, President and CEO, iBiquity Digital Corporation.

The show will feature many new and existing HD Radio products and a broadcast industry marketing promotion as well as provide opportunities for attendees to win a new HD Radio receiver.  iBiquity will also sponsor the annual Marconi Radio Awards Dinner and Show, taking place on September 21 at 7:00 p.m. CDT.

“We are proud of the high-profile attention HD Radio is getting in Dallas where much of radio is transitioning to digital technology,” said Robert Struble, President and CEO of iBiquity Digital — the company that develops and licenses HD Radio technology. “The actions of thousands of broadcasters to upgrade their stations are now being rewarded as manufacturers rush to launch a variety of new HD Radio consumer products for the home and car at price points far below last year’s levels; in fact, more than 20 new HD Radio products are being introduced in September and October. When these developments are combined with the addition of new national retail partners like RadioShack and Amazon.com, it becomes clear that all phases of the rollout are strong, making this an exciting time for everyone associated with HD Radio broadcasting.”

Workshop: Digital Radio Measurement
Date: September 22, 2006   •   9:00AM - 12:00PM
Location: Hilton Anatole Hotel Metropolitan Ballroom
Broadcast engineers familiar with analog signal measurements are now challenged to master new techniques for evaluating their digital signals. To ensure good signal quality and minimize interference, it is necessary to make accurate measurements of Hybrid IBOC signals. In this session, David Maxson will review scalar measurement techniques with spectrum analyzers and power meters, and will provide an introduction to vector measurements of IBOC signals. He will also attempt to answer the vexing question, "Is my spectrum analyzer up to the task?" The session will also touch upon the impact of amplifiers, filters, and antennas on AM and FM IBOC signal characteristics.
