UNIVISION AND REGENT COMMUNICATIONS AMONG RECORD NUMBER OF BROADCASTERS WHO ORDERED BE TRANSMITTERS AT NAB2007

Show's format, HD Radio momentum and BE transmitter power gains account for order volumes

Quincy, IL-Broadcast Electronics (BE) returned from the NAB convention with a record number of transmitter sales, counting Univision and Regent Communications among the broadcasters that took advantage of the show's format to choose BE HD Radio technology.

"We had an unusually large number of transmitter orders this year, because broadcasters recognize the advantages of our products and, just as important, in working with our people," said Michael Burgett, Vice President Global Sales for BE, which expanded support staff and manufacturing capacity in the past year.

Regent Communications signed orders for BE transmitters for its Flint, Michigan, and Lafayette, Louisiana, stations while at the NAB convention. Univision, the country's leading Spanish-language media company, also placed orders during the show for two BE HD Radio transmitters and one BE backup transmitter for its Phoenix stations.

"I waited until the NAB to make my final decision because I could look around and see what was new. I looked at all my options while I was there and decided on BE transmitters and service," said Chuck Beck, Engineering Manager for Univision Radio Phoenix, Inc., which ordered a BE FMi 25T tube HD Radio transmitter, a BE FMi 402 solid-state HD Radio transmitter and a BE FM 1C1 backup transmitter.

The transmitters are for Univision station KHOT 105.9 FM and its booster frequency in Phoenix; Univision's KOMR 106.3 FM and KQMR 100.3 FM in Phoenix installed BE HD Radio transmitters in 2006. Since 2005, Univision has purchased BE transmitters for stations in Dallas, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Fresno, Miami and New York.

Regent Communications ordered a BE FMi 201 solid-state HD Radio transmitter, a BE FMi 21T tube HD Radio transmitter and a BE FMi 25T tube transmitter for HD Radio transmission.

Adding to the transmitters' favor is a better than expected power output, giving broadcasters an average 10 percent increase in output power for low-level combined applications and 25 percent increase in output power for HD Radio only applications. The power increase was announced just prior to NAB2007, and applies to all BE HD Radio solid-state transmitter product lines as a result of BE's ESP technology, which corrects for nonlinearities in the transmission chain for the best overall HD Radio performance.
