Samsung EM Offers 2023 Slave Mode HD Radio Module
Hong Kong Electronics Fair – October 11, 2007 – iBiquity Digital Corporation, the developer of digital HD Radio™ technology, announced today that Samsung EM, a leading Korean consumer electronics manufacturer, is now offering HD Radio Slave Mode Modules that are 2023 compliant. These modules provide a quick path to market for manufacturers of products such as iPod® docks that support iTunes® Tagging for HD Radio technology. The first radios to incorporate the new Samsung EM 2023 module with the iTunes Tagging button are Polk Audio’s I-Sonic® Entertainment System 2 and the JBL iHD. They go on sale in the United States during the holiday shopping season. Samsung EM has two versions of the 2023 module now available to iBiquity licensees: 2023-L (large module) and 2023-S (small module).
“Samsung EM has been a consistent innovator in HD Radio module solutions. This new module represents another important development, enabling a wide range of new HD Radio receiver products. Samsung’s 2023 module enables manufacturers to rapidly bring products to market that require a slave mode module,” said Jeff Jury COO, iBiquity Digital Corporation. “In particular, this module enables iPod docking HD Radio products that have the iTunes Tagging feature, an important and growing category of HD Radio receivers.”
iTunes Tagging enables consumers using HD Radio receivers equipped with a special
Tag button, to “tag” songs that they hear on the FM dial for subsequent purchase on-line through iTunes. Six leading U.S. broadcast groups (CBS RADIO, Clear Channel, Cumulus, Cox, Entercom and Greater Media), which represent thousands of local AM/FM stations, are in the process of installing iTunes Tagging technology at the local station level.
